Have you ever gone to clean your office’s windows, only to find them full of streaks when you finish? You’re not the only one.
Streak-free windows can feel like a difficult-to-obtain goal, but with the right tools and technique, you can get sparkling, streak-free windows every time. Here’s how.
Step 1: Gather the Supplies
There are plenty of amazing store-bought window cleaners that will help you get the job done. You can read about some of the best-reviewed cleaners here. As an easy alternative, mix a 1:1 ratio of distilled white vinegar with hot water, and you’ve got an inexpensive and effective window cleaning solution. Other supplies you’ll need to grab include a bucket, microfiber cleaning cloths, and a squeegee. If you have tall windows in your office, you might also need a ladder and a longarm squeegee.
Step 2: Wet the Windows with Cleaner
If your cleaning solution came in a spray bottle, go ahead and spray it straight onto the window. Otherwise, mix the solution and hot water in the bucket and use a microfiber cloth to clean your office’s windows. Don’t worry about getting any solution off at this point, just make sure it covers the whole surface of the window. Let it soak for a minute or two before you remove it, especially if the windows are extra dirty.
Step 3: Squeegee the Windows
Use the squeegee to remove the cleaning solution from the window, top to bottom. Work from one side of the window to the other, barely overlapping the edge of the squeegee with the edge of your former stroke. Use a clean cloth to wipe the squeegee after every downstroke so that you’re not reapplying the dirty solution you just wiped off.
Step 4: Dry the Windows with Microfiber Cloth
Squeegees are great for removing water, but not so great at getting rid of streaks. This final step is essential for streak-free office windows! Grab some of those clean microfiber clothes and get to work drying the windows. Alternatively, you can use newspaper or paper towels, but newspapers are prone to tearing when they get wet, and paper towels often leave behind residue.
Are You Still Noticing Streaks?
If you’ve followed every step but are still seeing streaks on your windows, you might need a more powerful cleaner to help remove leftover residue from cleaning chemicals that were used on the window in the past. Try using the mixture of vinegar and hot water with a few drops of dish soap, and clean your windows following the steps above. This should solve any streaking problems!
